
here i used indigenous patterns for the title and border to enhance the sense of the culture.
the
design grew out of my
attempts to find a title. suddenly "chex mix" came to mind,
spawning a parody that expresses the fun sense of the music.
after all, what is more american than country music,
red, white & blue, and pre-packaged foods?
this is totally mine, and totally me, during the era when this music was experienced for the first time.
i liked the image in the song "moon like a tangerine" and decided to make it the title track. although it is unclear if it is moon or a sun, the glowing tangerine casts magic all around it, as does the music.
it was all about stealth, determination and passion.
longing for the motherland is shared by all immigrants, but losing oneself in the music from home keeps it closer.
when america decides to depict other nationalities and cultures, watch out. this was an exercise for a project on "orientalism" in american pop culture.
like a memorial wall, this compliation of sefardic songs simply offers up the named of some of the thousands of families exiled from 15-century spain.
roots again. the background is from 1950s west africa, the rich source of inspiration for the music. but the expression of it belongs to now.
